Fees
Tuition fees for home students commencing their studies in September 2025 will be £9,535 per annum (subject to Parliamentary approval). Tuition fees for international students will be £31,000 per annum. For general information please see the undergraduate finance pages.
Policy on additional costs
All students should normally be able to complete their programme of study without incurring additional study costs over and above the tuition fee for that programme. Any unavoidable additional compulsory costs totalling more than 1% of the annual home undergraduate fee per annum, regardless of whether the programme in question is undergraduate or postgraduate taught, will be made clear to you at the point of application. Overview
The unit focuses on principles of leadership in the healthcare context.
Aims
Give students an overview of theory and insight to the core principles of leadership.
Syllabus
- Inter-professional learning.
- Understanding yourself and leadership styles.
- Motivating and coaching others.
- Managing stress and conflict and developing negotiating skills.
Teaching and learning methods
Inter-professional workshop and tutorials will form the basis of these sessions; these will be supported by group work/discussions and self-learning.
Knowledge and understanding
- Explore inter-professional learning relevant to healthcare.
- Reflect on their traits relevant to leadership style.
- Explore different leadership styles.
- Recognise what motivates you.
- Describe three key motivational theories (Maslow, Herzberg and expectancy theories).
- Evaluate methods how to manage stress.
- Discuss different conflict resolution styles (Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument) and identify your go-to style.
