Aims

This course unit provides students with valuable experience in undertaking original research and completing a substantial piece of independent academic work. The course unit helps students develop independent research skills with assistance from an academic supervisor.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of dissertation, students should be able to structure and organise research-based academic work. The learning outcomes include:
- Formulate research questions
- Review and evaluate relevant theories/analytical frameworks
- Identify and collect appropriate data
- Apply a suitable method (quantitative and/or qualitative) to analyse data
- Discuss and inform key findings in an academic style



 

Teaching and learning methods

Methods of delivery: This course unit is delivered by means of individual meetings with an agreed supervisor who guides the student throughout the dissertation period. There are no timetabled lectures/seminars. Students are required to arrange meetings with an agreed supervisor in a proactive and professional manner.

Assessment methods

100% written coursework (i.e., dissertation).

Feedback methods

Feedback and advice on your progress will be provided by your agreed supervisor through supervision meetings and email communication. General matters in the course will be dealt with by the course coordinator.
