Accommodation
We know that parents and supporters will want to know that their students are living somewhere safe and secure, surrounded by a supportive community.
That’s why we encourage all first-year undergraduate students at Manchester to stay in halls of residence for their first year, especially if they are moving away from home for the first time.
Our accommodation guarantee
We guarantee a place in University accommodation to all new first-year students coming to Manchester alone. Applicants must submit an application for accommodation by 31 August.
Halls of residence
We offer an unparalleled choice of student accommodation, with approximately 8,000 rooms available in 23 different halls of residences. Accommodation ranges from modern self-catering flats to traditional collegiate-style halls.
Halls provide a focus point for student social life, and are an ideal place to make friends. All halls provide free Internet access.
We have pastoral support teams available in all halls, should students encounter any academic or personal problems while living in University accommodation.
For an overview of the halls, please visit our accommodation website.
University-approved accommodation
All students have access to Manchester Student Homes, a free service run in conjunction with other universities based in Manchester. It provides free housing advice and operates a code of standards, promoting good practice and raising the standard of privately rented accommodation throughout the city.
