Facilities
At Manchester we believe that world-class students and academics deserve world-class facilities, if they are to compete and succeed on a global stage.
That’s why we're investing £1 billion into new teaching and research buildings, student facilities and major improvements to the public realm around campus.

Library and IT facilities
Manchester students have access to the largest single-site university library in the UK, with more than 4 million books and journals – as well as access to the latest technology.
Alongside traditional library services, we give students self-service facilities, group study areas, an in-house binding service and Wi-Fi throughout the campus. We have nearly 4,000 computers on campus.
Our £24 million Alan Gilbert Learning Commons offers a stimulating 24/7 environment for study, with flexible spaces and the latest in learning technology.
Students' Union
Our Students’ Union is the largest in the UK, with more than 300 student-run clubs, societies and campaigns. Facilities include four live music venues, attracting the latest big-name and up-and-coming bands.
Via the Union, students have the chance to make decisions and influence the way our University is run. The Union also offers students free confidential and impartial advice through its advice services.
Sport, health and fitness
Students are entitled to discounted rates at our University’s sports facilities, which include three fitness suites, two 50-metre swimming pools and countless indoor courts and outdoor pitches on campus.
The city offers even more facilities, with Sport City, Manchester Velodrome, Chillfactore indoor ski slope, an indoor tennis centre and an athletics centre just a short distance away.
The Athletic Union is made up of more than 40 sports clubs and students have the opportunity to represent our University. Other organised activities include campus sports leagues, hall sport sessions and health and fitness classes.
Scholarships are available up to the value of £3,500 for students who excel at sport.
