Why study American Studies at Manchester?
Home to the UK’s first American Studies department, we offer you the opportunity to explore over three centuries of American literature, history, music, politics and political culture, film, photography and cultural analysis.
Course units range from the colonial era to the contemporary moment and include topics such as Hollywood film, Hip-Hop and the visual culture of the US Empire. All our degrees offer you the chance to study at a partner
institution in the US or Canada. You can also read American Studies as a Joint Honours degree, alongside either English Literature or History.
