Why study Archaeology at Manchester?
As part of the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology and Egyptology, the largest of its kind in the country, we offer a unique insight into the past. We cover everything from the prehistoric origins of Britain’s first hunter-gatherer occupants, through the emergence of farming and the rise of civilization in the Mediterranean and Near East, to the classical civilizations of Egypt, Rome and Greece.
Through analysis and interpretation of artefacts, archaeological sites, architecture, human remains and landscapes, you will explore the story of humanity, and consider many themes that remain significant in our lives today, including human relationships with the environment, technological change and religious beliefs.
You can also study Archaeology as a Joint Honours degree, alongside Anthropology, History, Archaeology or Film Studies.
