A guaranteed place on an undergraduate degree if you’re successful in your foundation year
The integrated foundation year is your first step to a four or five-year degree
Choose from 18 foundation year pathways and tailor your course to your chosen degree
Our foundation years are for students who don’t have the appropriate qualifications for first year, providing them with the opportunity to prepare for degree level study.
Here at Manchester we have a strong history in biology, medicine and health, engineering and the natural sciences. Our integrated one-year foundation courses are tailored to your chosen degree path, and guarantee you a place on your specified undergraduate degree upon successful completion – enabling a seamless transition.
Each course is designed to maximise your achievement and fully prepare you for degree study. You’ll be taught by experienced University staff in a welcoming, friendly study environment and will discover a close community within the student body. What’s more, you’ll have guaranteed place in a hall of residence.
Students on the Engineering and Natural Sciences pathways are taught on the University campus and have the same student experience as any other undergraduate in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
We have eight Engineering pathways, leading to undergraduate degrees in Aerospace Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical, Electronic and Mechatronic Engineering.
We have six Natural Sciences pathways, leading to undergraduate degrees in Chemistry, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Environmental Science, Materials Science, Mathematics and Physics.
Biology, Medicine and Health
We have four foundation courses in this area leading to undergraduate degrees in Biosciences, Dentistry, Medicine and Pharmacy. All or part of your foundation year will be spent at Xavarian College, a short walk from our main campus.
