Primary outreach

We're offering a range of activities for Years 5 and 6 to get involved in to ensure that our younger learners can continue to learn about higher education and student life despite the restrictions.

Campus visits for primary schools

As part of the University of Manchester's widening participation programmes, we offer half-day campus visits for local primary schools to help raise awareness of higher education environments and culture.

Guided campus visits for groups of up to 60 primary school learners include a higher education talk, campus quest, workshop and chance to meet our current University students.

All visits start at 9.15am, ending at 12.30pm (lunch is not provided) and will be hosted at The University of Manchester main campus.

We highly encourage and prioritise schools in Greater Manchester with a high proportion of students receiving free school meals/eligible for pupil premium to book.

We particularly welcome students from widening participation backgrounds who:

  • are the first in their generation to consider higher education;
  • are care experienced;
  • live with a disability;
  • are young carers;
  • are estranged from their families;
  • are from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds;
  • are from Gypsy, Roma or Traveller communities;
  • are refugees or asylum seekers;
  • are from military families.

Please note we are unable to visit individual academic departments or university accommodation.

If you interested in these events, please make a booking using our online form.

Children's University of Manchester

The Children's University of Manchester is our dedicated Key Stage 2 interactive online learning tool.

We have replaced our Adobe Flash subject materials with downloadable PDFs to make learning for pupils easier.

The downloadable subjects are:

However, you can still access some of the interactive subject areas on the website:

The students we've selected to work with our primary schools are now studying for a PhD so they have gained a lot of knowledge in many different subject areas. If your Year 5 and 6 classes could benefit from a subject talk, take a look at our classroom activities to see what areas we cover.
