Overview
This course will focus on students' work-in-progress. Each week, student poems will be critiqued by the group. The remainder of class time will be taken up with the reading and discussion of relevant examples of poetry (both contemporary and from earlier periods).
Aims
'To develop students' critical reading skills, so they are able to offer clear and constructive feedback on work-in-progress
-To develop students' awareness and understanding of the formal and thematic traditions of poetry in English.
-To assist students to develop as poets through the use of in-class writing exercises
-To encourage students to improve their own writing by responding intelligently and selectively to a variety of feedback.

'Make clear and useful suggestions as to how to revise the early draft of a work-in-progress
-Effectively revise and improve their own writing in response to feedback
-More fully understand the place of their own poetry within a poetic tradition
-Understand and make use of a range of poetic forms and techniques
