Overview

• Introduction to Qualitative and Quantitative Methodologies
• Qualitative methods including semi-structured interviews, case studies and ethnography
• Qualitative analysis including content analysis, thematic analysis and grounded theory
• Introduction to the fundamentals of business analytics, including, correlation, effect sizes, power, and hypothesis testing
• Research design including sampling; panel, cohort, cross-sectional, multi-group and multilevel designs; question types and response formats
• Survey design methods including reliability and validity
• Factor Analysis and basic statistical techniques

BMAN71961 Programme Req: BMAN71961 is only available as a core unit to students on MSc Business Psychology and MSc Organisational Psychology

Aims

• To introduce students to quantitative and qualitative research methods
• To provide a grounding in qualitative methods and analysis
• To provide a grounding in survey methods and survey research design
• To provide a grounding in Factor Analysis and basic statistical techniques for analysing correlation and group difference

Learning outcomes

• Understand how to design qualitative and quantitative research studies
• Design qualitative research methods such as interviews and focus groups.
• Understand how to conduct qualitative analyses
• Design a survey.
• Conduct fundamental analytical techniques, including, correlation, t-tests and ANOVA
• Specify, conduct, and interpret exploratory factor analytic models

Online tests (20%)
2 Reports 1200 words (40% each)
