Course overview
- Learn to apply genetics, genomics and bioinformatics to patient care.
- Learn from clinical and academic experts from The University of Manchester and Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine.
- Study one or more units from our MSc Genomic Medicine degree as standalone courses for continuing professional development.
- Fit further study into your schedule if you do not have the time to undertake a full master's course.

Fees
For entry in the academic year beginning September 2024, the tuition fees are as follows:

Modular (part-time)
UK students (per annum): £1,250 per 15 credits
International, including EU, students (per annum): £3,500

Policy on additional costs
All students should normally be able to complete their programme of study without incurring additional study costs over and above the tuition fee for that programme. Any unavoidable additional compulsory costs totalling more than 1% of the annual home undergraduate fee per annum, regardless of whether the programme in question is undergraduate or postgraduate taught, will be made clear to you at the point of application. Scholarships/sponsorships
Funding is available to NHS staff for CPD units.
It is possible to apply for multiple units and combine them for the award of PGCert Genomic Medicine or PGDip Genomic Medicine.
Health Education England (HEE) funding is initially only available for up to four units but students may apply for further funding once these four units are underway. Further funding will depend on attainment level and availability of funds, which are confirmed by HEE in April of each year. The University of Manchester's current contract with HEE runs until March 2025.
We intend to renew contracts but this is yet to be arranged so anyone studying part time from 2023 may find that funding is not available after March 2025.

Advice to applicants
Your application form must be accompanied by supporting documents.
- Degree certificate.
- A personal statement - approximately 300-500 words about why you wish to take this course and how it will affect your personal and professional development. This statement should try and refer to your current role.
- Full curriculum vitae including voluntary experience.
If any of the supporting documents are not in English, you must also provide us with official or certified English translations.
If English is not your first language, we require proof of your English language ability. If you have already taken an English language qualification, please include your certificate with your application. We may be willing to consider your application without this document, but if we choose to make you an offer, the conditions will include IELTS (or equivalent qualification).

Course description
If you are interested in studying genomic medicine at postgraduate level to further your professional prospects, but don't have the time to dedicate to a full master's course, you can take one or more units from our Genomic Medicine MSc course as standalone continuing professional development (CPD) courses.
We offer a range of units as short CPD courses, with most focusing on face-to-face interaction with our genomic medicine experts. Some units are taught using blended learning - a combination of face-to-face and online elements - for further flexibility. Units are generally delivered in blocks over consecutive days as opposed to weekly.
