Overview

This unit will be delivered via a combination of a hands on, lab based course (2 days), regular attendance at consultant assessment and treatment planning clinics and regular consultant supervised treatment sessions for the students. Students will also regularly present at and participate in departmental journal club. They will design, implement and present a clinical case.

Aims

The unit aims to:

  •  Equip students with the knowledge and clinical skills in the:

            -    Use of behaviour management skills in the paediatric patient

            -    Development of preventative treatment plans

            -    Placement of fluoride varnish and use of silver diamine fluoride

            -    Delivery of microabrasion for brown spot lesions

            -    Use of Icon for white spot lesions

  • Develop the student’s presentation and critical appraisal skills through participation in the regular departmental journal club and the development and presentation of a poster presentation.
