We are the premier institution for chemistry in the north of England with one of the largest research schools in the UK.
The School of Chemistry is a major partner in the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology (MIB), a research institute housed in an innovative £38m building.
The MIB building is specifically designed to accommodate an interdisciplinary research community derived from the biosciences, physical sciences, engineering and mathematics.
The institute aims to become a powerhouse of innovative research and technology development at the interface with biology.
We currently have the UK's second largest portfolio of EPSRC research grants and the largest portfolio of BBSRC grants of any Chemistry School.
We enjoy world-class facilities and have several centres strongly supported by industry, including:
- The Centre for Radiochemistry Research
- The Centre for Microporous Materials
- The Michael Barber Centre for Mass Spectrometry
- The Organic Materials Innovation Centre
- The Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (MIB)
