Overview

This course unit provides students with understanding of the lexical and syntactic properties of Business Russian, develops their competence in actively using relevant specialist vocabulary, and includes a range of practical tasks in a business context.

Aims

•    To develop students’ knowledge and mastery of the Russian language in a business-specific context 
•    To provide practical knowledge and skills to enhance students’ employability 

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

  • Use necessary formal structures appropriate to written business communication
  • Handle the appropriate business vocabulary
  • Analyse information about different companies
  • Translate English  business texts into Russian  in an appropriate register
  • Draft business letters, contracts and other business-related documents in an appropriate Russian idiom

Two progress tests           50% (25% each)

•    Oral comments on students’ responses during the relevant class 
•    General comments after in-class tests (including analysis, explanation and correction of most typical errors), following the relevant test 
•    Individual written feedback based on the results of the in-class tests (plus face-to-face discussion, if desired), following the relevant test 
•    Individual written feedback on the oral presentation (plus face-to-face discussion, if desired)
•    General  comments on oral performance, given during the last week of class in Semester 2.
