This unit integrates taught material with professional and clinical pharmacy practice. In year 2, students:

Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve pharmaceutical care issues for one aspect of one disease state including comparison of treatment to guidelines, interpretation of patient results, monitoring for efficacy and adverse effects

Use pharmaceutical calculations to recommend drug doses, concentrations and administration rates.

Observe and demonstrate interaction and rapport-building with healthcare professionals and patients.

Engage in Continuing Professional Development, inter-professional and socially responsible activities to improve employment prospects.

Observe and describe the role of the pharmacy aseptic service and precautions needed to ensure the sterility of aseptically prepared pharmaceuticals.

Feedback methods

Feedback is provided via a number of varied methods:

CPD: through peer evaluation

CCR: through individual written feedback via Blackboard

Calculations, CPD: through drop-in clinics.

Specialist dispensing: formative feedback using MCQ format will be offered.

Please see Blackboard. Recommended reading consists of papers from clinical pharmacy journals and BNF chapters. You will find this material very useful when preparing your Clinical Case Report. As clinical practice is constantly changing, this material will be reviewed at the start of each semester to ensure it remains relevant.
