After you apply

There are a number of stages your master's application goes through once you submit it. We’ll keep you informed along the way.

Acknowledging your master's application

After you submit your master’s application you will receive an automatic receipt. Your application will be uploaded into our Student System and sent to the academic department running your course.

Your user ID

We'll email you your unique University of Manchester user ID. You'll need this to set up an IT account so that you can then log in to Self Service to track your application and to accept your offer if you are successful. You can set up an account by visiting IT Account Manager.

Keep a note of your user ID and IT account details as you will need these throughout the process.

How to contact us

We'll email you the name and contact details of the admissions officer considering your application within three days of receiving your application. This is your main contact throughout the admissions process until you register as a student with us. The admissions officer will contact you as soon as a decision is made.

Most communications from us will be by email. Please check your emails regularly as we may ask you for further information or documents. To continue receiving information from us, please make sure we have your correct email address in the Self Service system.

Always quote your user ID when you contact us.

If your master’s application is successful we will send you a formal offer letter.

We cannot make you an offer if your application is incomplete. Use your user ID and password to log in to Self Service to check for any further documents we need. Please ensure that you set up an IT account before visiting Self Service.

If your offer is unconditional, there is nothing more that you need to do.

If your offer is conditional, please send us proof of your degree results as soon as possible. Don't worry if you don't have your final degree certificate yet - all we need is your transcript showing proof of your final results. Send this directly to the relevant department. You can find their contact details under the 'Academic department' tab within the course profile pages - search for your course.

Accepting your offer

  1. Log in to Self Service to accept your offer.
  2. If necessary, pay your acceptance deposit.
  3. Make sure you bring original copies of all relevant documents with you when you register as a student.
