After you apply for master's study

After you apply, you'll receive an automatic receipt, and your application will be added to our admissions application system and sent to your chosen department.

Activating your IT account

After submitting your application you'll receive an acknowledgement email containing your unique University of Manchester user ID.

When your IT account is ready, you will receive instructions on how to activate it so that you can log in to the applicant self-service portal in MyManchester. Keep a note of your IT account details as you will need these to:

  • track your application;
  • view and edit personal, contact and address details;
  • upload documents;
  • accept an offer.

Referees

If references are needed, we’ll contact your referees directly (using the contact details that you provide us) to submit a reference using our online form. We’ll email you if additional or alternative referee details are needed.

Uploading documents

If we need any further documents, we’ll contact you by email, you'll then need to upload them to the applicant self-service portal by the given deadline. You’ll need to activate your IT account before you’re able to do this.  

To upload documents, use your IT username and password to log in to the applicant self-service portal and select the ‘to-do' list tile. In your 'to-do list', you'll be able to see a list of all the documents that are still needed, as well as the date they're needed. To add a document, you need to: 

  • click on the item in the 'to-do' list; 
  • a pop up will appear with the option to ‘upload file’ this will take you to a file attachment page where you will see the documents we have on file for you; 
  • click ‘add’, then ‘my device’, find the correct document, click ‘upload’ and then ‘done’. 
  • choose an attachment type from the drop-down list, this should be the same as the requested item in your to-do list. Once selected, press ‘save’. 

Interviews

You may be invited to attend an interview as part of the application process for your chosen course. If so, you will receive further information, including the date and time, by email.

You can check the application and selection information on the course profile page to see if an interview will be required for your course.

Offers

If your application is successful, we'll send you a formal offer letter by email, including terms and conditions. We can't make you an offer until it's complete, so, make sure you upload all the needed documents and information as soon as you can.

If your offer is unconditional, we'll contact you with the next steps, if it's conditional, please upload evidence of meeting offer conditions to the self-service portal as soon as possible.

You need to bring the originals of all documents with you when you register as a student.

Accepting your offer

You'll need to log in to self-service to accept your offer. If you click on the 'applicant self-service' tile on your homepage, you'll see your applications.  

If you hold an offer for a course, you can choose to ‘accept’ and ‘decline’ your offer.

If you are a current student at The University of Manchester you may need to change your view if it does not default to ‘applicant self-service’. To do so, click on CS 9.2 Welcome page and select 'applicant self-service'. 

Paying your acceptance deposit

In your formal offer letter, you'll be told if you need to pay a deposit in order to accept your place along with a payment link. More information can be found on the acceptance deposit page
