Letting us know your results
If you've accepted a conditional offer of a place at The University of Manchester, we'll need to receive your exam results.
If you're taking A-levels and/or AS-levels, T levels, Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers, Irish Leaving Certificates, most Applied General qualifications (such as BTECs and CTECs), Welsh Baccalaureate, Access to HE or Cambridge International (CIE) examinations, UCAS will share your results with universities automatically.
UCAS will also share your International Baccalaureate results if you've given permission for them to do so.
We'll review your results to check whether you've met the conditions of your offer. You won't need to give us any additional information unless your offer requires results in further qualifications, such as GCSEs or English language qualifications.
If you’re taking qualifications not shared through UCAS
If UCAS doesn't provide us with your results, you’ll need to email high-quality scanned colour copies or colour photographs of the official exam results transcripts to your School or Department admissions team by 2 September.
This deadline also applies if you've applied for deferred entry in September 2027.
Some Schools and Departments may set an earlier deadline. If so, this will be highlighted in your offer in UCAS. You'll need to send official copies as soon as you receive them.
If you expect your results to arrive after the deadline, contact your admissions team as soon as possible.
Documents in languages other than English
If any of your documents have been issued in a language other than English, you'll need to provide official, authenticated English translations – a requirement of the UK government’s visa regulations.
Our Document Translation Requirements Procedure outlines the translation requirements for supporting documents submitted to the University for admissions, fee assessment or Student visa applications.
What happens next
If you meet the conditions of your offer
If we're your firm choice
UCAS will contact you and ask you to check the UCAS Hub for information. You'll only need to contact us if you want to defer your offer.
If we're your insurance choice
If you've met the conditions of your firm choice offer, your place should be confirmed at your firm choice university.
If you're unsuccessful at your firm choice, but you meet the conditions of your offer from Manchester, your place should be confirmed here. UCAS will contact you and ask you to check the UCAS Hub. You'll only need to contact us if you want to defer your offer.
Once we've confirmed your place, you’ll receive official confirmation through UCAS and an email from us. In early September, you'll receive an email about how to register.
If you don't meet the conditions of your offer
One of three things could happen:
- If places are available and we believe you're sufficiently prepared for the course, we may still be able to confirm your place. To check, visit your UCAS Hub.
- We may be unable to confirm your place. If Manchester was your firm choice, you may have a place with your insurance choice. If neither place is confirmed, you'll automatically enter Clearing. You can find more information about this on the UCAS Clearing webpages.
- Occasionally, we may be able to offer you a place on a different but related course (known as a Change of Course offer). This will appear on your UCAS Hub, where you'll be asked to accept or decline the offer within five days (after five days, the offer will be declined automatically). If you decline the Change of Course offer, you'll either go to your insurance choice or into Clearing, depending on your circumstances.
Many of our courses are highly competitive, so we're usually unable to consider lower grades. If UCAS shows that your application has been unsuccessful, unfortunately we won’t be able to offer you a place at Manchester.
We recommend checking the UCAS website for course vacancies at other universities and asking for advice from your school or college on next steps.
If your UCAS status hasn’t updated
If your application is still showing as 'Conditional Firm (CF)' in UCAS, contact the Admissions Team in your School or Department.
Your decision may be outstanding for a number of reasons, so get in touch and we can help advise on next steps.
Requesting a deferral
If you'd like to request a deferral to 2027, please email your admissions team and include:
- your name;
- your UCAS personal ID;
- your UCAS course code.
You want to be released into Clearing
You can self-release through the UCAS Hub. Releasing yourself into Clearing means giving up your place at Manchester, so it's important to carefully consider whether this is the right decision for you before making your choice.
Appealing your results
If you’re thinking about appealing your grades, you should speak to your school or college first. Appeals are only upheld where an error is identified or academic judgement is shown to be unreasonable.
For more information, including what to do if you’re an offer-holder, visit our appeals page.
Qualification verification
We’ll verify all qualifications that aren’t provided through UCAS. This usually happens during the application process and you may not be able to register until your results have been confirmed as genuine.
In rare cases, we may ask to see your original documents at registration or during your studies. We recommend bringing your original qualification certificates with you to Manchester.
Before you register
Before registering, you’ll need to complete:
Criminal Convictions Declaration
Unless your course requires a DBS check, you’ll have received an email with instructions on how to complete this form.
Right to Study check
Around six months before your course begins, and once your place is confirmed, you will need to complete our compulsory Right to Study check. Full instructions will be sent to you by email.
These checks are essential and must be completed before you can register.
You can discover more about becoming a student at Manchester on our Welcome website.
