Healthcare subjects
There are a number of resources that may be useful for teachers in schools, both created by The University of Manchester and relevant partner organisations.
#IMADEIT
The #IMADEIT project offers a resource to encourage bright students into studying medicine, no matter what their background.
Our Division of Medical Education asked medical students and doctors from non-traditional backgrounds to give some helpful advice. There are a growing number of videos for potential medics on the #IMADEIT YouTube channel.
They have also created two videos specifically for teachers to explain how you can encourage and advise students with a potential to study medicine:
- Advice for teachers from students who made it into medicine
- Advice for teachers on entry requirements
Greater Manchester Higher Healthcare videos
Greater Manchester Higher is a collaboration of universities and further education colleges from across Greater Manchester, who are working together to provide high quality outreach activities for local schools and colleges as part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme.
As part of the project GMH has developed some videos about Healthcare careers:
- Medicine careers video on Youtube
- Nursing careers video on Youtube
- Physiotherapy careers video on Youtube
- Radiotherapy areers video on Youtube

Greater Manchester NHS Careers and Engagement Hub
The Hub is aimed at improving the information and support available to people who are looking for careers opportunities in the NHS throughout the region.
Hosted at CMFT, the Hub is funded by Health Education North West and delivered in partnership with other NHS Trusts in Greater Manchester, The University of Manchester and a wide variety of stakeholders. The Hub provides a unique opportunity for local people, schools, colleges, education and training providers and employment support organisations to find out more about the educational and employment opportunities offered within the NHS. It also provides information about NHS careers, signposts enquiries and coordinates staff involvement and presence at local careers and engagement events.
To find out more visit the engagement hub.
Medical Schools Council
The Journey to Medicine resources are aimed at careers advisers and teachers who are supporting applicants to medical school. It starts with the considerations to make before application, including work experience and course types. From there it goes through the processes of the application itself and how to understand entry requirements. Finally it offers advice for the interview and on what to do when results are received, whether it is good news or otherwise or time to think of alternatives.
You can access the full collection of resources to support applications to Medicine and more general information on the Journey to Medicine website.
