Star Lecture archive – Andrew Loudon March 2011
In March 2011 Andrew Loudon, Professor of Animal Biology at The University of Manchester, delivered a Star Lecture for Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils entitled 'The Passage of Time'.
The talk was given as part of National Science and Engineering Week and was inspired by Professor Loudon's research interests, which include biological clocks, reproductive biology and molecular endocrinology.
Professor Loudon's lecture began with an introduction to the beginnings of life and the evolution of animals and man. He then discussed possible reasons for the mass extinction of the dinosaurs, before considering the rhythms of life by examining hibernation patterns and daily body clocks.

This lecture will be useful as a resource for pupils and teachers looking for an overview of the beginnings of life and also as enrichment to other themes within the curriculum.
