On 17 October 2012 Professor Andrew Sherry delivered an energy-themed lecture aimed at GCSE science students. Professor Sherry is Director of the Dalton Nuclear Institute and this lecture was a trailblazer event for the Manchester Science Festival.
Professor Sherry looked at the global challenges relating to increased energy consumption, with particular focus on materials science. In addition to provoking a discussion around nuclear energy production and associated waste, the lecture also highlighted the skills shortage in the UK STEM industries and the need for future scientists and engineers.
The lecture is available to watch below. It has been edited into bite-size topic areas for use by teachers and pupils, and will add value and interest to teaching and learning within the GCSE science syllabus.
