The University of Manchester is one of the most popular choices for students from Singapore. Like the Lion City, Manchester is enjoyed as a large, cosmopolitan destination which is home to a wide range of nationalities and ethnicities.
More than 150 students from Singapore are currently studying on our campus in the heart of the city. Established in 1999, The University of Manchester Southeast Asia Centre is located near to Marina Bay and is home to several courses such as the Global MBA.

Entry requirements
We will consider applications from students with a wide variety of academic qualifications. If your qualification is not listed below, then please use the form located on the Contacts tab and our South East Asia team will respond as soon as possible.
All versions of the Singapore Integrated Programme are considered for undergraduate entry based on the main qualification studied – see below.
Singapore-Cambridge A Levels are equivalent to standard A Levels and the entry requirements can be found on the webpages for each course. When an A* grade cannot be achieved for individual subjects, we will typically give an alternative offer which requires an A grade.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) entry requirements can be found on the webpages for each course. For specific courses we may consider the International Baccalaureate Careers Programme (IBCP).
The Polytechnic Diploma is considered with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
NUS High School Diploma students should contact the South East Asia team for guidance.
Advanced Placements (APs) are considered for all undergraduate courses. The University does not consider the SATs. More information can be found on our USA webpages.
Student’s with a bachelor’s degree from a Singapore university or institution will be accepted for master’s courses and some PhD programmes.

Many PhD programmes, especially those in a science or engineering subject area, will require a master’s degree with a similar GPA in addition to the bachelor’s degree.
English language requirements
All applicants to the University (from the UK and overseas) are required to show evidence of English language proficiency.
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires that every student from outside the UK and the EU must show evidence of a minimum level of English language in order to be granted a UK visa to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level. This level is often referred to as the ‘B2 level’.
Additionally, our individual Schools may ask for specific English language proficiency levels that are necessary for their academic programmes. In most cases these requirements are likely to be higher than the B2 level. Further information about our English language policy, including a list of some of the English language qualifications we accept, can be found here.
Some Schools ask that the appropriate score has been met before you apply for a course, while others give conditional offers subject to applicants achieving our general entry requirement level of English language proficiency before starting the course.
Under certain circumstances, the University may consider IGCSE/O-level English, or International Baccalaureate Language (English) or Language and Literature (English) at high grades as a recognised English language qualification.
Other entry requirements
Please note that this is generic information only. Faculties and Schools have different entry requirements and some qualifications may not be acceptable for certain courses, so it is important to check with the School directly before you apply.
Some courses have additional entry requirements such as previous work experience, submission of written work with the application or previous study of a particular subject.
Study abroad
If you are currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student at any accredited university or college of higher education outside of the UK, you can apply to spend a semester or full year here at The University of Manchester.
We offer year/semester abroad programmes as well as participating in a number of exchange partnerships with key European and worldwide universities. Most students joining us for study abroad do so in their third year (of a four-year degree) although we do also accept applications from second- and final-year students.
Minimum entry requirements for study abroad students are an average of 70% or cumulative CAP of 4.0/5.0.

Global Futures Scholarships 2027
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 350 awards to international students starting their studies in September 2026. The total value of scholarships offered will be over £6 million and awards will be open to students applying for undergraduate and master’s degrees.
Undergraduate awards
We're proud to offer a number of merit-based undergraduate scholarships of up to £36,000 (£12,000 per year over three years) to international students from a selection of countries across the globe.
The Global Futures Scholarships for South East Asia are open to applicants domiciled in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam.
Please note: the application form will only be made available once you've applied for an eligible course and received an offer.
Each award comprises £12,000 for the first year of study with a further £12,000 in the second and third years. Continuation of the award is conditional on attainment of 60% in final exams and assessments each year. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published international tuition fees.
Students must be taking one of the following qualifications:
- A-level;
- IB;
- STPM;
- Singapore Integrated Programme;
- Indian Standard XII (completed in an eligible South East Asian country);
- UEC;
- Advanced Placement examinations;
- Singapore Polytechnic Diploma.
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted and achieved grades, and your responses to questions in the online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible offer holders.
Awardees will primarily be selected based on academic merit, but the University may also consider the overall composition of the scholarship cohort, including representation across academic programmes, domicile, gender and qualification background.
- Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the following countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. To be considered as domiciled in these countries, applicants must have predominantly resided there during the last three years. We consider your permanent country of residence to be the country in which you are ordinarily resident, not a country where you are only living for the purpose of full-time education.
- Applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2027 and have, or be working towards one of the following qualifications: A Levels; IB; STPM (Malaysia); Singapore Integrated Programme; Indian Standard XII, completed in an eligible South East Asian country; UEC; Advanced Placement examinations; Singapore Polytechnic Diploma.
- Scholarship applications from applicants who have not yet received their results will be assessed on any previous examinations, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.
- Scholarships from students who have received their results will be based upon grades attained and the strength of the personal statement.
- Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored).
- Applicants for Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year are not eligible for the award.
- Applicants must have selected The University of Manchester as their FIRM UCAS choice by Monday, 7 June 2027.
- Applicants who have previously studied in the UK are not eligible for the award.
- The award applies only to full-time courses of study delivered at The University of Manchester’s UK campus in Manchester. Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award.
The application form will be emailed automatically to all eligible applicants shortly after an academic offer is made. Forms will be emailed from December 2026 until the closing date.

Master’s awards
The University of Manchester is proud to offer over 250 merit-based master’s scholarships to prospective international students from a range of countries across the globe.

The application form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
- Awardees will primarily be selected based on academic merit, but the University may also consider the overall composition of the scholarship cohort, including representation across academic programmes, domicile, gender and qualification background.
- Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored).
- Applicants for MBA, MPhil, Master of Architecture (MArch), Architecture and Urbanism (MA), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), MA Architecture and Digital Design, Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Clinical Medicine and Dentistry degrees are not eligible for the award. Some ‘Master’s by Research’ courses are also ineligible (see Terms and Conditions, below).
- Applicants who have studied a Bachelor’s degree outside of South East Asia are not eligible for the award.
- Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award.

Eligible offer holders will receive a link to the online scholarship application form by email from December 2026 onwards.
- Applicants must submit the completed online scholarship application form by Friday, 14 May 2027.
- Every section of the form must be completed. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Students applying for more than one course should submit only one scholarship application. If multiple applications are submitted, only the final application received before the deadline will be considered.
- Successful applicants must accept the scholarship by the deadline stated in their scholarship offer.
- Awardees must accept their course offer and pay the required CAS deposit by Friday, 23 July 2027. Some courses may have an earlier acceptance or deposit deadline, in which case the deadline in the offer letter applies.
- Successful candidates will be notified by Friday, 2 July 2027.
Other scholarships and funding

- Students interested in a one-year master’s degree can apply for the Chevening programme.

- For PhDs, the University offers a number of competitive bursaries via individual Schools and research groups for well-qualified candidates. Check with your prospective academic School for details and the University’s postgraduate research funding database.
You may also be eligible for sponsorship from your own government. Although The University of Manchester will support any student applying for this type of funding, it's important that you understand the process and apply for this source of funding separately. You can apply to the University before your funding has been confirmed.

We are currently in contact with over 1,600 graduates from Singapore where our alumni includes Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister in Singapore; he graduated from UMIST in 1976 with a BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering and Management Science.

Societies
Manchester has a very active Singapore Students' Society, which can be contacted via the UMSU website.
The society holds events through the year for its members, including a freshers' party, Chinese New Year reunion dinner and Annual Dinner and Dance.
SSSM also organises an informal orientation event in Singapore during the summer, as well as assisting with the University's pre-departure briefing session before the start of the new academic year.
