Entry requirements for Thai students

The University of Manchester welcomes a large volume of applications from Thai students each year. General minimum entry requirements for Thai applicants are summarised below. Please carefully check the specific requirements for your chosen programme via our website prior to application.

Undergraduate/Bachelors

A-levels/International Baccalaureate

If you are studying A-levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) then you can apply for direct entry to the first year of an undergraduate/bachelor’s degree.

Typical grade requirements:

  • A-levels: A*AA – ABB
  • IB: 34-38 points, with 7, 6, 6 – 6, 5, 5 in Higher Level (HL) subjects

Undergraduate typical entry requirements

The entry requirements below are provided for guidance only. Requirements may vary by course and/or academic School.

Undergraduate Courses with Integrated Foundation Year
(Science, Engineering, Bioscience only)
Certificate of Secondary Education Matthayom 6 (Maw 6)
Applicants who have completed Certificate of Secondary Education Matthayom 6 (Maw 6) are required to undertake a foundation year as this qualification does not meet our minimum entry requirements.
Subject specific requirements may also apply.
INTO Manchester Foundation Programmes
(Science, Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences, Pharmacy, Psychology)
Certificate of Secondary Education Matthayom 6 (Maw 6)
Applicants who have completed Certificate of Secondary Education Matthayom 6 (Maw 6) are required to undertake a foundation year as this qualification does not meet our minimum entry requirements.
Subject specific requirements may also apply.

Postgraduate taught/research 

PG master’s courses (MSc, MA, MRes)

Students with a good bachelor's degree (normally, a minimum GPA of 3.0) from a Thai university can be considered for entry to postgraduate degrees at Manchester.

Applicants will also need to demonstrate English language proficiency.

MBA

The Manchester MBA requires a minimum of three years’ professional work experience.

The University of Manchester offers a range of one year master’s programmes that offer an attractive alternative to academically well-qualified students without suitable work experience.

PhD

Students with a good master's degree (normally, a minimum GPA of 3.0) from a Thai university can be considered for entry to postgraduate research at Manchester. 

Applicants will also need to demonstrate English language proficiency.

PhDs/Postgraduate research degrees are individually supervised. We strongly recommend that prospective applicants make initial enquiries with the potential supervisor or academic school before submitting a formal application. A research proposal is required along with your formal application.

English language requirements

All international students coming to study in the UK on a Tier 4 visa/Student Route visa are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English language. The minimum English language requirements for each programme are specified on the course description

We accept a range of global English tests (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL iBT). In addition, we may be able to accept English from Malaysian 1119, iGCSE and IBDP depending on the overall score achieved.
