The University of Manchester offers a wide range of scholarships to US students. Many of these are awarded on academic merit.
Global Futures Scholarships 2026
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 300 awards to international students starting their studies in September 2026. The total value of scholarships offered will be more than £6 million, and awards will be open to students applying for undergraduate and master's degrees.
Undergraduate awards
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 100 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of £30,000 (£10,000 per year over three years) to international students from a selection of countries across the globe.
The Global Futures Scholarships for North America are open to applicants domiciled in the USA and Canada.
Please note: the application form will only be made available to you once you've applied for an eligible academic course.
If you apply before the UCAS Equal Consideration Deadline (14 January 2026) you will be sent an application once you've applied. If you apply after this date, you must be holding an offer by 5 March to receive an application form from us.
Each award comprises £10,000 for the first year of study with a further £10,000 awarded in second and third years of study, conditional on attainment of 60% average in each year. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
You must be taking one of the following qualifications: Advanced Placements (AP), Dual Enrolment, A-level, IB, US High School Diploma, Canadian High School Diploma.
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted grades and your responses to questions in the online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible applicants and offer-holders.
Awardees will be selected based on academic merit, but we'll try to achieve a balance in the allocation of the awards by gender, domicile, qualification type and course of study.
- Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the USA and Canada.
- To be considered 'domiciled in the USA or Canada', you must have predominantly lived there during the last three years and not for the purpose of full-time education. This includes students living in North America to attend a college or university.
- If applying to the awards after 14 January 2026, you must hold an offer to study a full-time, on-campus undergraduate course at The University of Manchester starting in September 2026 and must submit an online scholarship application form by 5 March 2026. The application form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
- You must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2026 and have, or be working towards one of the following qualifications: Advanced Placement, Dual Enrolment, A-levels, IB Diploma, US High School Diploma.
- You must have accepted (made firm) a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time course at Manchester by 22 May 2026.
- Scholarship applications from AP, Dual Enrolment, A-level, IB, US High School Diploma, and Canadian High School Diploma students will be assessed on any previous exams, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.
- You must be self-funded (not sponsored by an external government agency or commercial funder). FAFSA and provincial loan recipients are eligible to apply for this award.
Not eligible
- Blended and distance learning programmes.
- Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year are not eligible for the award.
- Those who have previously studied at a higher education institution in the UK.
If applying before 14 January 2026, you will be emailed the application form once an academic application has been made. Scholarship applications must be made by 5 March 2026.
Awards offers will be made by 17 April 2026 and will be conditional on academic performance as outlined in the full terms and conditions below.

Master’s awards

The value of The Global Futures Scholarships for North American students is £10,000; scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
Within North America, the awards are open to applicants domiciled in the following countries: Canada and the USA.

- Some ‘Master’s by Research’ courses are also ineligible (see terms and conditions below).
- Applicants who have studied a bachelor’s degree outside of North America.

You must then accept your course offer and pay the CAS deposit (if required) by 24 July 2026. If no deposit has been paid by this date, the award may be withdrawn.
In addition, a number of other faculty, school and programme-specific scholarships are available to students from North America.
For PhDs the University offers a number of competitive bursaries via individual Schools and research groups for well-qualified candidates. Please check with your prospective academic School for details and the University’s postgraduate research funding database.
We are pleased to have funded a Fulbright-University of Manchester Award for master’s study for September 2026 entry.
We have previously hosted Fulbright scholars undertaking master’s courses in Law, Social Anthropology, International Relations and Development Economics.

The University offers Marshall Scholarships for graduate study in any subject at either master’s or doctoral level (excluding the MBA).
Previous Marshall Scholars have studied a wide range of subjects, including MA Humanitarianism and Conflict Response, Art Gallery and Museum Studies and MSc International Development.
The North America Foundation for The University of Manchester is an independent foundation that supports our work to enhance our reputation in the US. The aim of the award is to provide a range of prestigious master’s scholarships to attract excellent students to our University. Invitations will be sent to eligible applicants as per the criteria laid out in the terms and conditions linked below.
The value of the NAFUM Scholarship is £10,550.

Some of our Schools will offer partial scholarships or bursaries; however, these do not always cover the full cost of tuition and living expenses. Details will be advertised on the relevant School website when scholarships are available.
The Alliance Manchester Business School is offering master's scholarships for US residents for 2024 entry.
Five scholarships are available across all Alliance Manchester Business School master's courses, with a value of £10,000 towards the tuition fee. The scholarships will be awarded in line with our application deadlines, so early application is advisable.
